Clinic video consultation

I helped Toughlex client which is an international health and wellness clinic specializing in medical treatments and procedures performed by doctors and surgeons. It is a modern clinic with a goal to provide medical services for their clients without a long waiting list. The project’s goal was to design an online booking system for appointments with doctors as well as enable users to book video consultations with a possibility to share files. The design had a primary focus on user experience and was meant for desktop devices but also responsive for mobile. Also, it had to be easily understandable and simple to use for users of different age groups.

Design goal

One of the first actions I took, was to structure the booking system in steps which allowed users to choose a specialist, pick a suitable time and date and fill out required personal information in a form. Every step was designed with progressive disclosure where only the necessary information and options were presented for users. This way the layout stayed uncluttered and guided users to the last step of booking. After the last step, users are prompted with a confirmation for booking which includes the details they filled out. Also, content was well organized in the video call and file sharing layouts. I designed the screens to be familiar so that users could easily navigate and perform required actions during their video call.

Booking process in 3 easy steps

Video call, accessible consultation and file sharing

Mobile screens

User flow

I incorporated task-based flow chart to understand how steps of the booking process fit together. It helped to define, communicate and improve the specialist booking system by allowing me to identify bottlenecks and unnecessary steps of the process. Also, it made the job easier for developers by assisting them to understand how automated and manual parts of the process joins up.

Wireframes

Wireframing was used to clarify features, display architecture and iterate project details with client. Also, it assured that all requirements were met in regards to content and tasks. It’s a great tool to avoid misunderstandings and save time, and resources later on during UI design phase.

Visual design

The company had a previously established color scheme. Despite that, fonts and colors had to be used in a way for users to effortlessly scan and navigate content while performing the primary functions of the booking system. I built font hierarchy to help users understand content priority, since the booking layout consisted of many small details and different information. Accent together with neutral colors made content readable and produced a good contrast between buttons and other layout elements.
